Rosy Days - January 2010
Rose Patchwork Cottage, 44 Warner Street, Raceview, Ipswich. Q. 4305. Hi there – this is our first newsletter for 2010. You can see our new address above – we operate a retail premises from the ground floor of that address. It is a residential area but very easy to find. If you are driving to Ipswich – before you get to town – turn left at Queens Park at the fiveways and proceed down Chermside Road which in short time becomes Warner Street. We are a high white house with black trim and a white sign. We have stitching groups on Tuesday mornings and evenings (9.30am and 6.30pm respectively) – so come along and learn a new technique. We do roses, vintage and reproductions – you’ll see these fabrics in my shop. I do a lot of my own designs and of course, the best of other people’s designs. I favour currently Fig Tree Quilts, Holly Holderman (Lakehouse Quilts), American Jane and Lecien (Japanese vintage florals). My shop stocks a range of all these. We have a room dedicated to sale fabrics and can always do you a nice backing for $12 per metre from our sale fabrics. I try to design two new blocks of the month each year myself – an adult and a children’s quilt. This year – the Adult quilt is Love Notes and the child’s quilt is "The littlest Fairy". They can be viewed on our website as follows: http://www.rosepatchwork.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=561 http://www.rosepatchwork.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=566
This is the Littlest Fairy
This is Love Notes. As well as my own designs – we have 40 other options for Block of the Month – with the hugely popular Playing with Angels from Majella Rush from Kookaburra Cottage. This can be viewed on our website http://www.rosepatchwork.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=577 Recession Spending Much has been made of the need to make economies due to the "recession . I think the media has beat this up considerably resulting in a real downturn for some businesses. I have had some lean years myself with children at University and being a sole parent for a few years and I really hate the quilts I made over those years. I made some false economies. Here’s my tip for keeping the price of quilts down: Use lots of quilters muslin (pre-washed natural homespun) and feature small amounts of the most beautiful fabrics. Jelly rolls from Lecien or Fig Tree quilts will take you a long way. Here are a couple of quilts which will make heirlooms and make savings in the way I describe. They are great patterns and Fig tree Quilts simplify complex patterns to produce heirloom results. Their great (and often surprising) use of colour works together to form a wonderful vintage outcome. American Jane fabrics also produce wonderful results used in this way. Go to my website – and click on the section marked "recession busters" and you will see some great quilts to use with quilters muslin and other solid fabrics which usually come a whole lot cheaper. Either that or click on the listings immediately below Lover’s Knot http://www.rosepatchwork.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=587 Starstruck http://www.rosepatchwork.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=590 Sunwashed http://www.rosepatchwork.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=589 Papillon http://www.rosepatchwork.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=588

What’s New with Fabric: I am truly excited about the new fabrics – just arrived and to come - they are sensational. Tea time range from Holly Holdermann. Go to her website (Lakehouse Fabrics) and click on the last few items and you can view the lovely tea cups and roses designs. We have most of the range – but it sells fast. We are adding some of the blue in the range which will be out soon. If you like a fabric – get the number from the website and send us an email. We will arrange to supply the fabric and how to put your details on the web which is a safe site. In about March we will be getting the complete "Dolls Dresses" range which you will simply love. At any time we have lots of Jelly Rolls in the laterst ranges so do try us first. View our Fabric Section on line to order jelly rolls. We try to stock a full range of Blackbird Designs new collections including some jelly rolls so go to Moda Fabrics website and see their new range also which should arrive any day.(Chelsea Manor). These are lovely muted shades of pink, blue, tan , rose and very useable. I am trying to make a new sample with each collection. Natures Notebook has arrived – I have jelly rolls and layer cakes only. I am presently working on a pitchers and bowl quilts made from a layer cake and it is divinely fresh, French looking and perfect for china (think Delft) . I also have some lovely new jelly rolls and layer cakes for Chez Moi’s Chelsea Boutique. My sample of that will be on my website in due course. Brand New Block of the Month for 2010 Well that’s it for this month. Hope you find something fantastic on our website. I am working on my new block of the month (just started) which will be called "Ladies Home Journal" and feature fashions from the 50’s. I’ve got a long way to go yet. It features cute styles from Joy White who collaborates with me on my quilt designs. Happy Australia Day – cheers Judy Gray
